Discovery and eDiscovery

"Discovery" is a pretrial phase of litigation. In the United States, it is primarily defined by the federal and state rules of civil procedure to allow a party to the litigation to request all relevant information from the other parties in order to prepare the case for trial.

After a civil case is filed with a U.S. court, the court will require the parties to hold a discovery meeting to determine what information each party has to provide (produce) to the other parties, how it will be collected and produced, and the timeline for producing the information.
