“On-premises” is a term generally used to describe Microsoft software installed and executed on a client device or server devoted to a customer’s use. Products offered through volume licensing programs are generally categorized as either on-premises software or as an online service. Traditional examples of on-premises software include the Windows client OS, Windows Server, Office Professional Plus and Standard edition suites, SQL Server, and other server-based applications.
