Information Protection and Governance

Microsoft 365 supports a number of capabilities for information protection, data loss prevention (DLP), and information governance. A new records management feature providing additional retention capabilities for high-value documents was introduced in 2020.

Service Overview

DLP capabilities enable organizations to discover and protect sensitive information such as documents containing Social Security numbers or bank routing data. DLP can be used with Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Teams, including Teams chat.
